Look a Little Closer into Those Eyes

eyes

By Samantha McKenzie

Look deeply into the eyes. It holds the missing puzzle pieces. It has a way of speaking in silence and holds in all of the things we’re too afraid to let others see.

When all the chatter ceases for the day, spend a few moments in silence, staring into the eyes of someone you love.

One minute. Two minutes…then five.

Turn off the television. Set aside your electronic devices. Mute out all the artificial noise. Spend the next few minutes breathing deeply and looking into the eyes of the caring.

Seek with no expectations. Resist the temptation to break the stare. Block out the urge to be distracted. Force yourself to focus on the person in front of you. Don’t overthink it.

In these moments, everything else can wait. The laundry, the dishes, the phone call to your mom. Instead use this time to make a connection.

Becoming worthy of sharing this space.

Exchanging the precious peace that lies within.

Pushing past the tension and turmoil.

Quenching the thirst of your entangled freedom.

It’s time to open this window to your soul. Look a little closer into these eyes. Find me. That’s where I’ll be.
