WomenWhoHope is an online platform of creative thoughts, ideas and expressions to inspire riveritalywomen to hope for a life unimaginable. We welcome you to our blog and look forward to the kinetic synergy that will be released from this exchange.

Hope is not a passive word. To us, it is more like a divine force, a courage that is summoned within us; an idea that has come to time. This blog evolved after a series of discussions between two friends, both writers, and both busy with the dangling of life’s low fruit, who decided to extend this notion of hope to others.

We write our hopes down to inspire and motivate us all to act. We hope for fulfilled lives. We hope for bright futures for our children. We hold out hope for our cities and states, our nation and our world. We will never, ever stop hoping. And we hope you won’t either.

We invite you to follow us on this journey, and to share your own words of hope, inspiration and action with our readers. Through this community, may we all live a passionate and boundless life birthed from our hopes and dreams.

dawn onleyI am a native of Frederick, MD. and come from a very close-knit family who believes in celebrating life and sharing our love. I started my 20-year career as a journalist and editor before moving into the field of public relations.

I am a goal-oriented person who believes in the power of intention. I create vision boards each year and will many of those visions to fruition, through hard work, discipline, focus and drive. One such vision realized was when I ran the New York Marathon in 2011. I’m also an avid theater-goer; one who devours sublime food and a good book; a baker, a writer, and poet. I have traveled to roughly 20 countries, including France, Italy, South Africa, Germany, China, Egypt, and Brazil, and 37 states, and I have made some amazing memories. I’m a true believer that the traveling experience is the best classroom.

This year will be huge for me. I recently adopted a beautiful boy who has brought new meaning to my life. I am getting married at the end of this year and I’m excited about this new phase of my life. The power of intention is real.

Mainly, I look for every opportunity possible to feed my soul. This blog is one of those opportunities. Cheers!

I’m a public relations professional, currently working as a director of marketing and communications at a university. Prior to my interest in PR, I worked as a journalist for daily and weekly newspapers in Washington, D.C., Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Fort Worth, Texas and Winston-Salem, N.C.

sam1earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Norfolk State University and a master’s degree in strategic public relations from The George Washington University. I enjoy writing, learning about people and their cultures and the beauty of the outdoors.

My passion is people. I believe in the power within and am inspired by the will of others to overcome obstacles and circumstances. To me, nothing is impossible. In my spare time I like to dabble in photography, take spontaneous trips to the beach and enjoy the view from the mountains.

Born in Nassau, Bahamas, to immigrant parents from Georgetown, Guyana, I moved with my family to Brooklyn, N.Y. when I was three years old. I currently live in Greensboro, N.C., and have three children — Shakeel, Tahirah and Samiyah. The latest addition to our family is a one-year-old black labrador retriever named Oreo.

Uplifting, inspiring, and comforting – wow! You ladies have given us a special gift with this site. After a grueling week of appointments and paperwork, what a blessing to sit and read the articles and smile at the photos. It all left me . . . hopeful! 😊. Keep up the great work!

  3. Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring
writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid
option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely confused ..
    Any ideas? Thank you!

    1. Thanks for reading and for your sweet note! We started with the free WordPress platform and think it’s a great option for new blogs. Try it out for a few months and then you can always upgrade to a customized site. Best wishes on your new website! Please pass along the link when you are up and running. We’d love to support.
